Akshay Kumar was recently seen promoting his upcoming comic caper, ‘Khatta Meetha’ in Mumbai. Akshay Kumar, who plays a construction engineer in the film, was spotted looking at potholes and climbing road rollers on the roads of Mumbai. After a series of not-so-successful films, the actor is riding high with the moderate success of his film ‘Housefull’. Let us hope that Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar can create magic with Khatta Meetha as they did in ‘Hera Pheri’.

According to sources, her role in the film is quite challenging as there are two facets to her character. The film is based on June 2009 murder of Bihar PWD engineer Yogendra Pandey who was killed by Bihar’s road mafia.

Akshay Kumar is well known in the industry for his Marathi speaking skills. This time he is putting it to good use as he plays a Marathi Manus, Sachin Tichkule in the film. Following the foot-steps of Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar will also debut as a singer in this film. He will be seen singing a song in Marathi, ‘Nana chi Taang’ which will be rephrased as ‘Teri Aisi Ki Taisi’ in Hindi. Ace music composer, Pritam is all set to create magic all over again with his lilting tunes. The song ‘Nana chi Taang’ a combination of rock and Maharashtrian music is bound to strike a chord with the masses and go on to top the charts!

The film is about bike gangs in Mumbai which indulge in daredevil stunts. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays the character of ‘One Shot Nandu’, who is famous for pummelling his opponents in the ring blindfolded. Deepika plays Pinky Palkar, a blind and ambitious dancer who dances with her roller skates on. Nandu teaches her to see and she teaches him how to love. But what price will they have to pay for their love? This forms the crux of the film. The lead pair has done some real life stunts for this film. Yashraj Films is not disclosing much about the film as they want the anticipation for the film to build!

Deepika Padukone will be seen starring in this Yash Raj Films movie alongside co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh for the first time, very different from her previous glamorous roles. According to sources Deepika and Neil have extremely challenging roles to play in this love story set in the gritty streets of Mumbai. It seems Deepika is playing a role of a blind girl and Neil Nitin Mukesh that of a fighter The film will be released worldwide. Neil Nitin Mukesh also affirmed that all the action in the film is real and so is the physical violence. The actor was left bruised and wounded after he shot for this film. The rumour doing rounds is that, this movie is about the bike gangs of Mumbai and Neil and Deepika will be seen doing daring stunts in the film. But considering that Neil’s character is called ‘One Shot Nandu’, there might be a bit of Guy Ritchie influence too. Let’s hope that this new pair of can create magic both on screen as well as the box office.

The film is being directed by Pradeep Sarkar and is being produced by Aditya Chopra. This is Pradeep Sarkar’s second film under the Yashraj Films banner, the previous one being ‘Laaga Chunari Me Daag’, which did moderately well at the box office. Pradeep Sarkar made his directorial foray into Bollywood with the film ‘Parineeta’, which was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and starred Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan.

With the impending local elections, and an encouraging brother who is happy to push him towards this unique ‘honor’, Natha becomes a celebrity overnight with political bigwigs, high-ranking bureaucrats, local henchmen and the ever-zealous media making a beeline for the sleepy town of Peepli. The question on everyone’s lips – “Will he or Won’t he?” As the mania escalates what will be the fate of Natha?

Bollywood love stories are known to create magic at the box office and ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ is no exception. I Hate Luv Storys by debutant director, Punit Malhotra stars Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. The film is old wine in a new bottle as it does not have a very different storyline. The ideas and romantic sequences in the film are borrowed from earlier hit love stories. Just that the director’s treatment of the age old theme, makes the film worth a watch!

I Hate Luv Storys is the story of Jay (Imran Khan) and Simran (Sonam Kapoor), two people as different as chalk and cheese. Simran is a die-hard romantic and loves love stories so much that her own life begins to resemble one. She lives in paradise with a doting boyfriend (Samir Dattani) and a good job as a production designer. Her world of dreams comes under threat as she comes across Jay, a cynic who believes in everything but love! Jay hates love stories. Things take a turn for the worse when he as an assistant director to Veer (Samir Soni), a film maker famous for making love stories, has to work under Simran.

Anyone watching the film can draw parallels between a Mills and Boon novel and the film. Punit Malhotra has done a commendable job as a writer. His characterization of Jay and Simran is also flawless. But Punit could have done better as a writer as some of the other characters in the film seem deficient. Vishal-Shekhar have done an exemplary job with creating the musical tracks of the film. Salim-Sulaiman’s background score is top notch. Ayananka Bose proves his brilliant skills as a cinematographer yet again with this film, after Kites. Styling by Manish Malhotra is chic and classic.

Imran Khan’s performs his part with ease and has truly captured the spirit of Jay on the marquee. Sonam Kapoor takes you by complete surprise as she completely reveals a new aspect of herself as an actress. Her role as Simran is very different from what she played in her earlier films, Delhi 6 and Saanwariya. Her transformation from a plain Jane to a glam chic has gone down very well with the audiences. Imran and Sonam illustrate crackling on-screen chemistry. Samir Dattani is good. Samir Soni lives upto to his seniority as an actor and plays his part well. Kavin Dave as Imran’s pal has done a great job. The others Pooja Ghai, Ketaki Dave, Anju Mahendru are fair enough. Overall ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ is a youthful film with the lead pair adding a lot of freshness to the storyline and plot of the film. The youth are making a beeline for the film. And if you are romantic at heart, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ is definitely for you!

Quite unlike Priyadarshan’s comic capers, Bum Bum Bole is a different film that beautifully brings out the unique bond between a brother and a sister. The film’s story revolves around a family residing in a region ridden with terrorists. The family has Atul Kulkarni as the father with a meagre income and Rituparna Sengupta as his wife. Darsheel Safary (Pinu) and Ziyah Vastani (Rimjhim) play children to this couple, who want their children to get educated. But they face a financial crunch in doing so and are unable to meet the demands of the school. Things take a turn for the worse when the brother misplaces his sister’s pair of shoes. How the brother-sister duo manage with one pair of shoes forms the crux of the film. Pinu, the brother, then decides to run a marathon and win a pair of shoes as the prize for his sister. The film has exemplary performances by every artist. Priyadarshan has very perceptively carved out the innocent and poignant story of two siblings and the dilemmas they face in life and how they fight their way to overcome it.

Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of well known actor, Anil Kapoor. A power house of talent, Sonam made her presence felt with her very first film in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saanwariya. Before making her debut, she had assisted Bhansali with his film ‘Black’. It was Bhansali who suggested that she take a shot at acting. Like her debut film, her second film, Dilli 6 was also a box office disappointment but her acting skills were appreciated and it was affirmed by critics that a star had arrived. Sonam is poised for two upcoming releases, I Hate Luv Storys and Aisha opposite Imran Khan and Abhay Deol respectively. The films will hit the screens in quick succession in the monsoon months of July and August. Sonam has been unable to create any box office magic yet, but her forthcoming films look promising. Come August, and we have another Sonam Kapoor starrer Hindi movie ‘Aisha’ hitting the screens! Aisha is an adaptation of the English novel, ‘Emma’ by Jane Austen. Sonam Kapoor plays the main protagonist, Aisha, opposite Abhay Deol, who plays Arjun. The film has been shot all across Delhi, Hrishikesh and Mumbai and expected to be in theatres on 6th August, 2010.

The story of the film is about Aisha, a girl who loves matchmaking and tries to play cupid for singles. Aisha’s problem is that she meddles in everyone’s business, which can be annoying at times, especially for Arjun who has his own set of rules and feels that Aisha should stop interfering in others’ lives. Belonging to the Delhi upper class society, Aisha leads her life as per her rules and manages to control all around her. Caught in her web are Pinky, her best friend, the small town girl Shefali, the west Delhi boy Randhir and the hunk Dhruv. A perpetual optimist, Aisha does all this with great élan, but sees a problem in Arjun, who wants Aisha to stop playing games and prevent her from getting into a mess!

Tere Bin Laden is an entertaining Hindi comedy film about a Pakistani journalist who fails to migrate to US despite repeated attempts. The film is slated for a worldwide release on 16^th July, 2010. It is produced by produced by Walkwater Media & IBC Motion Pictures and is written & directed by Abhishek Sharma.

This tongue in cheek comedy is about an ambitious young news reporter from Pakistan who is desperate to migrate to the US in pursuit of the American dream and making it big. His consistent attempts to immigrate are met with failure as his visa is always rejected owing to security reasons post the 9/11 terror attacks in the US. But things take an interesting turn when he comes across an Osama Bin Laden look alike. The reporter then plans to produce a fake Osama video and sell it to news channels as a breakthrough scoop! Unfortunately there are serious repercussions as the White House gets involved and dispatches an overzealous secret agent on the his trail.

Pakistani actor, Ali Zafar, who is also known as the ‘Prince of Pop’ in Pakistan, plays the lead role as the journalist in this film. Zafar was initially very apprehensive to take up the role, considering the title of the film, which could have hurt people’s sentiments. But all his doubts were put to rest as he went through the script, which had a comic narrative. The film is basically a satire on jihad, the commonly propagated holy war in Islam.

Musical trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has created music for this film and being a singer, Ali Zafar has rendered two songs, ‘ I Love Amreeka’ and ‘Ullu Da Pattha’ in his melodious voice along with Shankar Mahadevan. Jaideep Sahni has penned the lyrics while Santosh Tundiyil is the cinematographer for the film.

People’s magazine recently threw a party to celebrate the success of their edition featuring the, ‘Most Beautiful Woman’. The evening was a star studded one, with Page 3 personalities making their way to the Tote Restaurant on the turf, at Mahalaxmi race course in South Mumbai. People’s magazine was launched in India in 2008, by the Outlook group, in association with the Times Group. The magazine was positioned as a celebrity news magazine which would have authentic news about A-list celebrities of the country.

Bollywood beauties Sushmita Sen, Dia Mirza, Kangana Ranaut and other celebrities were at their stylish best as they attended the event by People’s Magazine Most Beautiful People. Actress Sushmita Sen, looked stunning in a blue Alexander McQueen dress, posed for photographs along with a glowing Dia Mirza, who sported orange ruffled dress. Kangana Ranaut also added her bit of glitz to the evening as she came dressed in a black skirt. Some of the other celebrities to attend the event were socialite Soniya Mehra and superstar Sonu Niigaam who came with a new look and an equally interesting hairdo. Kareena Kapoor, who was voted as the Most Beautiful Woman by People’s Magazine, adorns the cover page of the prestigious magazine for the month of June, and was conspicuous by her absence.

Modern age film makers and directors with fresh ideas are the new face of Bollywood. Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta by debutant director Pravesh Bhardwaj is another such film, set for release on 25^th June, 2010.

This Hindi film is based on infidelity and cheating spouses. Set in London, the film has Prashant Narayanan playing Ashwin Mehta and British-Indian actress, Aruna Shields playing Neera Singh. Both Ashwin and Neera find their respective spouses having an affair. Drawn together by shame and anger, they find comfort in their growing friendship even as they resolve not to be like their unfaithful mates, but ultimately end up as lovers. The film created much furore before its release because of numerous lip-lock scenes and a nude scene in which Aruna exposes her bare back. The film finally got the censor’s nod with an A certificate.

Prashant, seen on the small screen, was critically acclaimed for his performance in Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part 2 and also did a role in Ketan Mehta’s controversial period drama Rang Rasiya. Aruna Shields is best remembered for her role in Vivek Oberoi’s Prince Its Showtime. The film also has Lucy Hassan as Saki, Prashant’s wife and Naved Aslam as Karan Singh, Aruna’s husband. Ustaad Shujaat Hussain Khan, who was nominated for the Grammy awards, has rendered music to this film which has a few soulful ghazals. The music launch was held at the Infiniti mall in Mumbai earlier in the month of June, prior to the film’s release.
