The Mumbai Indians skipper fended off competition from fellow compatriot Virender Sehwag, South African Hashim Amla and Englishman Greame Swann. The year 2010 has been one wondrous year for the lad from Mumbai, with almost 2000 runs in just 10 test matches and 17 ODIs. Sachin also achieved the unique feat of becoming the first batsman to score a double century in an ODI.
The year 2010 was a very successful for the Indian Cricket Team with the top test spot, and the fact was solidified with another Indian in the form of The Nawab of Najafgarh – Virender Sehwag being awarded the 2010 ICC Test Player of the Year. The all action batsman scored 1282 runs at an average of 85 with 6 centuries in the calendar year. Sehwag says, “I think I got motivated last year when Gautam Gambhir won this award and it was then I hoped that I could win this award next year. And I am greatly privileged that I have won this award.”
The South African AB De Villiers won the award for the ODI player of the year. Sachin and Sehwag also featured in the Test Team of the Year with M S Dhoni as the captain of the team.
