Rangbaaj music launched

The music for Haider Kazmi’s upcoming Bhojpuri film, Rangbaaj, took place at a hotel in Patna in the presence of the cast and crew of the film. The honours were done by Food and Consumer Protection minister, Shyam Rajak. The film has nine songs which include a rocking item number. Rangbaaj addresses the burning issue of naxalism which has raised its ugly head and is a menace in some of the eastern states of India. The event was attended by some members of the cast that included Haider Kazmi who has also produced the film, Anil Yadav and Seema Singh. At the launch, Rajak said, “Bhojpuri films is not only about entertainment. It also deals with serious issues like Naxalism and I am happy that someone has come forward to direct a film on this burning issue. The state government is trying its best to take the Bhojpuri film industry to the pinnacle.”

Haider Kazmi, the producer of the film who also features in the film said that though the film is based on a serious issue, it was important to include songs in the film keeping in mind the Bhojpuri audiences. “I want the people to enjoy the film with a light dose of entertainment even as they watch a social issue-based film. People want to see such films but it is important how you present it to them. I know serious films have hardly any songs but one must not forget that we are dealing with the Bhojpuri audience here. So it was important to add this flavour,” Kazmi said.

He also added: “The motive behind having nine songs in the film is that people should not be bored. The issue of Naxalism is very vast. It is not possible for everyone to understand its meaning. How many people are aware about the genesis of Naxalism and the reason behind it? I am sure very few people are aware about Charu Mazumdar, the man who started the movement at Naxalbari in Bengal. My aim is to convey the message to the people in an easy format.”

Anil, who has been cast in a negative role in the film, said: “The essence of Bhojpuri films can never go from Bollywood. This is the reason many of their films have Bhojpuri dialogues. We want the state government’s support as most Bhojpuri films are shot outside Bihar. These states generate good revenue out of it.”
Actress Seema Singh said: “Item numbers are essential in Bhojpuri films. But the audience should take these as entertainment and not in any other sense. After all, we are artistes and we are doing it because there is a demand.”

Bollywood choreographer, Ganesh Acharya has cone a brilliant job choreographing the number which has patented steps from Munni Badnam Hui and Sheela ki Jawani. Says a source, the rip off was essential, since the song mentions Munni and Sheila both. Shalu ke Thumkey is set in a road side dhaba which was specially erected for the song in Yash Raj studios. Mallika will be seen in a jazzy choli and a short skirt with Rajansthani embroidery and sequin work. The entire cast of the film is a part of the playful number. According to the film’s producer, the item song is so peppy that it will make the audience forget the likes of Sheila and Munni. The promos of the song are out and Mallika sure looks enticing in her new act. Mallika’s short skirt is an all time low in Bollywood!! Will Shalu ke Thumkey set new standards??

Yamla Pagla Deewana Music Launch

The music launch of Yamla Pagla Deewana was a start studded affair with the Bollywood bigwigs attending the event in droves. Produced by Top Angle Productions, the movie will again bring together the Deol Trio - Dharamendra, Sunny and Bobby - for the second time after their film Apne in 2007. Film maker Samir Karnik and producer Nitin Manmohan set the evening in motion by unveiling the songs of the film with an audio-visual. One blockbuster number “Tinku Jiya”, from this movie, is already creating waves these days.

The highlight of the evening was when Dharam Paaji, broke out into a jig to the tune of the title track of the film, ‘Main Yamla Pagal Deewana’ in his traditional trademark style. His sons Sunny and Bobby were quick to follow him. The leading lady of the film - Kulraj Randhawa - and Anu Malik joined the Deols on stage alongwith the playback singers of the film. Apart from this, the event also marked the reunion of the famous Sholay pair, Jai-Veeru, with Amitabh Bachchan making it a point to attend the event and join his dear friend on stage. The music was formally launched by Amitabh Bachchan, whom Dharamendra cordially invited on stage to do the honours as he referred to him as “Mera Jai…”

The film has been made to mark Dharamendra’s fifty years in the film industry and also to commemorate the actor’s 75th birthday. At the event, Big B said that he wished his dear friend all the success and seventy five years more of entertaining. Dharamendra on his part said that it was overwhelming to have entertained the audiences for so many years and he was thankful to all his fans for all the love he received in these years. He also said that acting for him was not a profession but the love of his life. Others who were present at the gala night include Salman Khan, Abhay Deol, Tanay Deol, Suneil Shetty, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Aditya Pancholi, Prakash Jha, Indra Kumar, Bhushan Kumar & Kishen Kumar.

The soundtrack for the film has been composed by a number of renowned music directors like Pyarelal of the duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal fame, DJ team Rhythm-Bass-Dhol (RDB), Anu Malik, Sandesh Shandilya, and others. There are quite a few lyricists including Dharmendra himself and veteran lyricist Anand Bakshi, Irshad Kamil among others. Daler Mehendi, Sukhwinder Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan have rendered their melodious voices for the songs. Yamla Pagla Deewana is slated for release on 14th January, 2011.
